A guest post with a few characters from the Sydney underworld Hosting a guest post, and choosing who to invite today wasn’t easy. Getting the mix right took a while, and of course consideration had to be given to who would want to come and who might be pissed if left out. Carol was easy (she always […]

2015 Review

2015 – another full-on year! It’s been a busy year, both on and off the keyboard. A lot has been achieved, and as we roll into Christmas, with the house filled with the smell of cooking, and family about to arrive it’s time to take some time out to recharge. In the first few months, and before […]

Update – Sydney Underworld Quartet: Book Three

I’m currently working on the third book of the “In The Sydney Underworld” series, and would like to invite you all to visit my website and sign up for an ARC, if interested.

The other two books in the series, Heather, and Flank Street were released in August 2014, and May 2015 respectively. Each book is stand-alone. They share locations and a few characters, and can be read in any order. Does that make it a series?

I didn’t set out to write about Micky, or Carol come to that.
The rain was falling steadily, running down the small, below ground-level window, which is the only source of natural light in the boiler-room where I write. For some obscure reason it reminded me of a rain-soaked street in Sydney, Australia; a street I’ve walked down many times, both wet and dry.
As I held that image in the back of my eyelids, a man appeared. Yellow streetlights reflected from the wet tarmac; he walked in the shadow of the plane trees, pulling his hood up against the unrelenting rain. He stopped, leaned against a tree, and waited.
Right at that moment, I knew what I had to do.

Flank Street – The Sydney Quartet: Book Two

Flank Street was released today!   From the first word to the first sale has taken a bit over six months. It feels a lot longer, possibly because this was the first time in more than three decades I’d spent a winter in Europe; it seemed to go on forever. I missed the warmth of Australia […]

Noir

noir movie out of the past

Noir and neo-noir fiction and movies. Noir was an easy choice for today’s letter ‘N’ for the April A to Z Challenge. Noir is one of my favourite genres in both books and movies. The core of popular noir stems from authors such as Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain – “The Postman Always Rings […]

Micky

flank street

Micky DeWitt is the main character and narrator from Flank Street. Micky is entirely fictitious, or as far as a character can be. When it comes to creating characters, we all draw on people who’ve crossed our paths, or influenced us in one way or another. I don’t know who Micky is, or where he […]
